JAMES A. STEPHENS, 99
JAMES A. STEPHENS, 99, died Thursday, January 15, 2004, at Heatherwood Retirement Community in Honey Brook, PA., where he resided since 2000. He was formerly of Secane, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia. He was the husband of Ruth Schneider Stephens, with whom he shared 72 years of marriage. Born April 25, 1905 in Tower City, he was the son of the late Frank Stephens and Lily M. Kopp Stephens. He was a graduate of Temple University and was employed as a district superintendent for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in September 1962. He also owned a clock shop where he made grandfather, grandmother and steeple clocks.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his eldest son James A., husband of Beulah Bertsch Stephens (Boo) of Fort Wayne; and a sister Grace (Stephens) Morris of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two grandchildren, Thomas James of Carmel and Deborah Stephens Bowman of Morgantown, Pa. and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son Frank A., husband of Betty Stephens; two sisters Mary Farrah and Margaret Miller; and two brothers Lewis and Joe.
Services were private at the convenience of the family. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Tower City. Arrangements by John P. Feeney Funeral Home, Reading, PA
