MOORE COMPLETES BOOT CAMP
Marine Corps PFC David W. Moore, son of Debi S. and David L. Moore of Yoder, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. William E Armington of Fort Wayne, and a 2000 graduate of Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, recently completed 12 weeks of boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Boot camp is designed to challenge new Marines recruits both physically and mentally.
Moore and fellow recruits began their training of intense physical conditioning by performing calisthenics and running three miles. In addition to the physical conditioning he spent numerous hours in classroom and field assignments which included learning first aid, uniform regulation, combat water survival, marksmanship, hand to hand combat and assorted weapons training. They performed close order drills and operated as a small infantry unit during field training. Moore said the intense training was well worth the experience.
Recruits also received instruction on the Marine Corps, core values, honor, courage and commitment and what the words mean in guiding personal and professional conduct.
They ended the training with the Crucible, a 54-hour endurance test, where they received little to no sleep and very little to eat. At the end of the Crucible they had an emotional ceremony in which recruits are presented the Eagle Globe and Anchor, the Marine Corps Emblem and they are received as “Marines” for the first time in their career. Moore will continue his training in schooling at Camp Legiune, North Carolina.
