FALL FESTIVAL
Covington Manor, 5700 Wilke Drive is celebrating their 25th Anniversary with a FALL FESTIVAL on November 1, 2003 from 9am to 4pm. RUMMAGE SALE
St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, 12012 Franke Road is having their fall rummage sale on Friday, October 24th, from 8am to 4pm and Saturday, October 25th from 8am to 12noon in the gymnasium. $2 a bag or as much as you want for $5 on Saturday morning. Many usable items.

 

MARCO’S PIZZA KICKS OFF WORLD FOOD DAY
To help increase awareness of World Food Day and Community Harvest Food Bank and its hunger relief programs throughout northeast Indiana, Marco’s Pizza will give away free pizza and Coca-Cola drinks from 11am until 7pm on Wednesday, October 15, 2003. No purchase is required. Each Marco’s Pizza store in the Fort Wayne area will give away a slice of pizza and a Coke to everybody who stops by. Cash and food donations to Community Harvest Food Bank will be accepted at that time but are not required. SINGLE PARENT LIFE-ENRICHMENT CLASSES
Bethany Lutheran Church, 2435 Engle Road, offers Single Parent Life-Enrichment Classes. Thanks to a generous grant from the Lutheran Foundation, Bethany is able to offer a series of Life-Enrichment classes designed especially for the single parent. The next class will be October 9th from 6:30pm to 8pm at the church. The topic will be “Living on a Budget”. Free baby-sitting will be offered during the class. Classes will continue to be offered every other Thursday 6:30pm to 8pm as follows: October 23rd, “Nutritious Cooking on a Shoestring”; and November 6th, “Stress Management”. AUTUMN PUMPKIN PATCH
Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church is sponsoring an Autumn Pumpkin Patch. This fundraising project will benefit the United Methodist Church Fort Wayne District’s Habitat for Humanity 2003 project. We will be selling pumpkins, gourds, Indian corn, and corn stalks. RENDEZVOUS

When: October 11 & 12, 2003
Who: All Buckskinners, Trappers, Traders, Indians, Craftsman, and the public are invited.
This Rendezvous is being held on the beautiful grounds of the SouthWest Conservation Club and the front yard of the historic Chief Richardville House in southwest Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Planned: Blackpowder Shoot, Hawk & Knife Throw, Bow Shoot, Women’s Skillet Toss, plus a Wooden Horse Race and Scavenger Hunt for the youngin’s and many more activities, to include a counsel fire on Saturday night. This is a pre-1840 Re-enactment with all events for camper participation only, the public is welcome to observe and ask questions.
There will be a primitive church service on Sunday morning. Singing and preaching being done by “Preacher Mike” Kaufman from the Fort Defiance Way. Everyone is invited. This is a family oriented function. Lots of fun things to see and do. This event is open to the public, Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm and it is FREE. WAYNEDALE NUDISTS TO MEET
The next meeting of the Waynedale nudist club, “TANNIN’ BOTTOM”, will be Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at 6:37pm. The theme for this meeting is, “DECORATING WITHOUT COVERING UP”. The topic of discussion will be, “Going Natural In The Snow & How To Treat Frost Bite In Never Before Heard Of Places”. Food for this meeting will be furnished by our hosts Sven, Lena, Lars, and Brindle. We’re assured that the food is authentic Norwegian and it will be a serve-yourself Smorgasbord on slightly elevated tables for obvious reasons! Garald and Guido will be furnishing the drinks and desserts. Hot coffee and hot tea will not be available.
Our Annual Fall picnic/campout is still scheduled to be held at Possum Hollow, west of Akron, Indiana, just off State Route 14. Date and time to be announced. It will be a careful carry-in. Members are advised to bring protection against ticks, mosquitoes, poison ivy and sunburn. Remember: The suction cups in snakebite kits are designed to be used on arms and legs only.
This will be the last meeting of the season unless a vote is taken to continue through the winter. For those of you who can’t attend the picnic, watch this space for further announcements.

 

CHIEF JEAN BAPTIST RICHARDVILLE HOUSE OPEN
What: Chief Jean Baptist Richardville House ‘Open House’ and ‘Miami Indian Trading Post’

THREE RIVERS GEM AND MINERAL SOCIETY
Beginning Friday, October 17, 2003 to Sunday, October 19, 2003, the 42nd annual Three Rivers Gem, Mineral, Jewelry, and Fossil Show will be open to the public at the Allen County 4-H Fairgrounds. Hours are 10-7, Friday and Saturday, 10-5 Sunday. School tours by appointment will be Friday, 9-2. This year’s theme is “Fabulous Fluorite and Fantastic Fluorenscence.” Enjoy working demonstrations, including a flint knapper on Sat-Sun., exhibits, dealers in minerals, gemstones, lapidary equipment, fossils and special kid’s activities. Admission is $2 for adults, High School students – $1. Children under 12 – free. There will be door prizes and special prize drawings. Free parking.

 

RUMMAGE SALE
The ladies of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 9909 Wayne Trace, will hold a Rummage Sale on Thursday, October 23 from 8am to 4pm and Friday, October 24, from 8am to 12noon. Friday is a SACK SALE. Emmanuel is located southeast of the I-469/Wayne overpass at the corner of Wayne Trace and Emmanuel Road.

 

SPENCERVILLE COVERED BRIDGE FESTIVAL
The Spencerville Covered Bridge Festival will take place October 9, 10, 11, & 12 in Spencerville, Indiana, home of the only covered bridge in DeKalb County, and one of the last remaining covered bridges in northern Indiana. The festival will include events and entertainment such as:

UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS ANNOUNCES – “WOMEN AND HEART DISEASE WEEK”
Lydia Reynolds, a nursing student and a member of the Honors Program at the University of Saint Francis, has organized activities during the week of October 13 designed to educate the public about how heart disease affects women as her Service Learning Project for the Honors Program.
“I think that many women are unaware of the risks when it comes to heart disease,” Reynolds said. “You hear a lot about other conditions, like osteoporosis and breast cancer, but heart disease does not get the attention, through it is the number one cause of death in women.”
The Student Nurses Association will sponsor a blood drive in the Doermer Center Nursing Lab, off Leesburg Road, on Monday, October 13 from 9am to 3pm. There will also be a special presentation about Women and Heart Diseases in Gunderson Auditorium in the Achatz Hall of Science off Leesburg Road on Thursday, October 16, from 4pm to 6pm. Both of these events are free and open to the public. CRAFT SHOW

CTS SPONSORS 3K RUN/WALK
The campus of Concordia Theological Seminary (CTS) is used not just by its students, but also by many of the area Lutheran elementary schools for various sporting events.‑ In an effort to improve the facilities for seminary students, the Lutheran Schools Athletic Association (LSAA) events, and the Fort Wayne community, CTS is sponsoring the St. Joe River Run, Saturday, October 25, 2003.‑Participants in the 3K run/walk will help in this fundraising effort by
obtaining pledges from sponsors.‑The day begins with registration at 8:00 a.m.‑ Registration for adults is $15 ($18 after October 15), for students it is $8 with no pledges or free if the student obtains $50 in pledges, and a fee of $40 for a family of three or four.‑ Those who pre-register will also receive a free t-shirt.‑ There will be an Early Bird Run at 8:30 a.m. with the 3K run/walk beginning at 9:20 a.m.‑ Participants under 10 years old are encouraged to run in the Little Tykes Run at 10:30 a.m.‑ The day’s festivities end with awards at 11:15 a.m. and a hog roast at 11:45 a.m.
