TO VFW POST 1421 MEMBERS AND FAMILY
Our annual picnic is right around the corner. This event will be held at VFW Post 1421, 7712 Buffton Road on Saturday, August 2, 2003 from 11am until ????. The post will provide beer and pop and also the meat (beef and ham). We ask that everybody bring a covered dish. We will also have games for the kids and Karaoke with Ron Holley. KOREAN WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION INDIANA CHAPTER ONE
The KWVA Chapter One will be taking a bus trip to Washington, D.C. to celebrate the 50th year Anniversary of the truce of the Korean War. The dates are from July 22nd thru July 28th. We will be visiting many patriotic and historical places a well as doing many other fun things. Come and travel with us and join the fun!!! The monthly meeting of the KWVAC1 will be held on August 9th, 2003 at the American Legion Post 82 on Harris Road. Meeting begins promptly at 9am with breakfast and social hour beginning at 7am. SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN OF AMERICAN VETERANS 5TH ANNUAL BENEFIT
The benefit will be held Saturday, July 26, 2003 at AMVETS Post 33, 6620 Koester Drive (off Lower Huntington Road-behind the Waynedale Branch of the Allen County Library) in Waynedale. Afternoon music by Russ Chandler, auction from 3pm to 5pm, food served, motorcycle & car show, games/drawings, evening hours-live music inside post, Rolling Thunder Bike Run Register at 9am with 1st bike out by 9:30am back by 1pm.

Come on down to the Post on Thursday Nights and sing & dance with J&R Karaoke from 7:30pm to 11:30pm – Eat Coney Dogs for 75 cents.

AMERICAN FLAG QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Question: What are the words to the Pledge of Allegiance?
Answer: Here are the words; notice that there is no comma (pause), after the word ‘nation’. “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands; one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty, and justice for all.”
Question: Why do we put so much emphasis on the flag?
Answer: The National Flag represents our living country and is considered to be a living thing, symbolic of the respect and pride we have for our nation. Our flag is a precious possession. Display it with pride. There are certain basic rules of Heraldry, which, if understood, generally indicate the proper methods of displaying the flag. The right arm, which is the sword arm and point of danger, is the place of honor.
Therefore, the union is the honor point of the flag. The National Emblem is a symbol of our great country, our heritage and our place in the world. We owe reverence and respect to our flag. It represents the highest ideals of individual liberty, justice and equal opportunity for all.
Note: If any unit, legion, Amvet, Boy scout, Girl scout, Cub scout, etc. is collecting American flags and holding a flag disposal ceremony, let us know and we’ll publish the details in The Waynedale News.
