FEATURED ARTIST FOR THE MONTH OF JULY:

JOHN STARK – OILS AND PRINTS

John Stark, Fort Wayne Art Source Teacher of the Month, showed an interest in drawing and painting; it was suggested that he study under the guidance of Lee Dohner. His art classes were held at the Eastside YMCA. This gave John something creative to do when he retired from GE in 1983. John joined the Fort Wayne Artist Guild in 1989 and the Fort Wayne Art Source in 1994. His scenes come from places he has traveled and books he has read. The United States continues to see a downturn in the economy and families are facing challenging financial situations. Continual company buyouts, downsizing, and closures place a real strain on family finances. Families can work together to make it through these times. Resources are available from the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service to assist with this time of change. Visit the Allen County website www.ces.purdue.edu/allen and the Consumer and Family Science page to visit a website titled “Living on Less”. Publication topics include When Your Income Drops, Managing Your Credit, and Talking to Your Family. Visit the Purdue University website at extension.purdue.edu/Pages/default.aspx for additional information on stretching the budget.

FOX ISLAND COUNTY PARK NEEDS VOLUNTEERS FOR BIRD OBSERVATION BUILDING

The bird observation building at Fox Island is a peaceful place to observe nature. The park needs volunteers to keep this building open for visitors, feed the birds, and perform very light maintenance duties such as cleaning bird feeders and bird baths. There is also a working bee hive for visitors to enjoy. Relax with a book while visitors stroll in and out, help children with crafts, or help them identify the animals they can see. The level of interaction is up to you. Hours are flexible and weekday workers are especially needed. Please contact Jodi Leamon at 449-3184.
