A TRIBUTE

Born: September 3, 1962 – Passed On: April 12, 2003

Alan died on April 12, 2003 from complications from a motorcycle accident. His accident occurred on Yoder Road at approximately 2:15pm. He was taken by helicopter to Parkview Hospital, where he died a couple of hours later.

Alan is survived by his mother, Eileen Shanyfelt, of Yoder; two sisters, Kathy Combs of Yoder & Lori Moreland of Chicago; son, Ryan Shanyfelt of Plymouth; daughter, Cortney Barker of California; two nieces and four nephews. He is also survived by his beloved fiancée, Tonya Morgan; two (to be) stepdaughters, Alexja and Brianne Morgan; two (to be) stepsons, Dustin and Christian Morgan all of Fort Wayne.

Alan had several close friends from his high school days. He was diligent in maintaining all his relationships and everyone close to him knew how he felt about them. He was especially close to Lonnie, Neil, Mike, Jeff, and Mark; they all know who they are. He was the kind of person that people cherished. He was loyal to the people he loved. He was a very special person that people admired. Alan was a person that had the highest of integrity, and stood up for what he believed in. He was a good person with a huge heart.

Alan was an accomplished ASE certified auto mechanic and received a degree in auto mechanics. He was very proud of his work, and had very strong work ethics. He loved his career and was extremely proud of his success. Alan’s professionalism preceded him and businesses from all over would welcome him on their team.

Alan’s one true love was his motorcycle. He had a 2000 Honda Magna. He spent countless hours babying it and loved to ride. He felt a beautiful inner peacefulness when he rode. He lived, and died with it. There is no doubt that he took his motorcycle to heaven with him.

He had a deep love for this younger sister Kathy and her family. They were there for each other, through thick and thin and always knew how the other felt. Few words needed to be expressed between them, as they had a strong bond that no one else shared.

He spent the last few years of his life with his fiancé, Tonya. They had a deep, bonding love that few understood. They were going to be married in May and spend the rest of their lives together. He wanted nothing more than to make her and her children happy and take care of them. He thought of Tonya to be a special person and spent his time telling everyone how special she was to him. This poem is dedicated to Alan. The author is unknown.

THE DAY GOD CALLED YOU HOME

God looked around his garden,
And found an empty place.
He then looked down upon his
Earth and saw your loving face.

He saw your path was difficult,
And He closed your weary eyes.
He whispered to you, “Peace be thine.”
And gave you wings to fly.

It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
On the day God called you home.

May you rest in peace Alan Dale Shanyfelt; we will always love you, and carry you in our hearts wherever we shall go.
