MIAMI ‘LADY’ INDIANS PROVE THEY’RE ‘STILL HUNGRY’!

The Miami ‘Lady’ Indians completed an amazing season winning the FWCS City Championship 32-20 over the Shawnee Braves. This season’s championship was their fourth in the last five years. It also marked the second time the ‘Lady’ Indians have completed back-to-back city championship seasons. Not only did the ‘Lady’ Indians complete another championship season, they did it by going undefeated. The varsity team finished 15-0 and the reserve finished 10-0. It was the first undefeated season for the ‘Lady’ Indians.

The ‘Lady’ Indians adopted the team motto, ‘Still Hungry!’ as their main theme this season. The girls and coaching staff wanted a daily reminder to stay focused on the main goal of winning another city championship. The ‘Lady’ Indians scored a total of 727 points (48.4 ppg) this season. But what’s even more amazing is that the ‘Lady’ Indians only allowed 323 points (21.5 ppg) from their opponents. Their average margin of victory was 26.9 ppg. “We encourage team defense.” Says Coach Isaac Davis. “The concept of team defense brings a team closer together, because players have to depend on one another to be successful. It’s not ‘man on man’, it’s ‘team on man’. If you play defense as a team, it makes it much easier to play offense as a team.”

The ‘Lady’ Indians were led in scoring by Sha’la Jackson (15.1 ppg), Teirenney Fincher (10.0 ppg), Anitra Woodson (7.2 ppg), Rubbie Underwood (6.8 ppg), and Natalie Collar (4.0 ppg).

The ‘Lady’ Indians are coached by Isaac Davis, Stan Kennedy, and Arnold Lewis.
