KOREAN WAR VETERANS ASSOCIATION INDIANA CHAPTER #1
The November meeting of the KWVA Indiana Chapter #1 will be held on November 16th instead of on the 9th due to the Veterans Day Parade. Meeting time is at 9am with breakfast at 7am. Meeting place is at the American Legion Post 82 on Harris Road. Spouses and friends are invited to attend. Be sure and join us on Parnell Avenue for the Veterans Day Parade. VETERANS’ DAY PARADE
Fort Wayne’s Annual Veterans’ Day Parade will be held Saturday, November 9, 2002 on Parnell Avenue at 11am with line-up at 10am at the Wizard Stadium.
AMERICAN LEGION POST #296
The David Parrish Post 296, American Legion will conduct the annual Post Everlasting Ceremony at its November 19, general membership meeting. The Ceremony, honoring the members deceased during the past year, will commence at 7:30pm at the post, 103 West Tillman Road. Relatives of these deceased members are especially invited to attend. Following the ceremony Edward Dax, Team Leader of the Vet Center will be our guest speaker. Mr. Dax will explain the many services available to the members of the Legion. Commander Lawrence Thiele has extended an invitation to the Auxiliary and SAL members to attend this meeting.
AMVETS #33 IN VET’S DAY PARADE
Amvets Color guard will take part in the parade out Parnell Avenue to the Coliseum. Commander Doug Boren will be the MC for the parade. Afterward, at approximately 1pm there will be a rededication of the Coliseum. Amvets Color Guard will be the host unit for this event. Past Commander Robert “Shorty” Geiger has served on this event committee for the past year and it looks to be a wonderful event. The U S Navy Band, Snider HS & Elmhurst HS Bands will also take part. The Concordia Band members will be ushers for this grand event.
FLAG ETIQUETTE
Question: What is the correct method of folding the Flag of the Untied States?
Answer: 1)Fold Flag lengthwise. Bring the striped half up over the blue field. 2)Fold Flag lengthwise again, bringing bottom edge up to meet the top edge. This will place the upper part of the blue field (the union) on top. 3)Fold lower right-hand corner (end with red and white)to the upper edge to form a triangle. 4)Now fold the triangle toward the blue field. The outer point is turned inward on the upper edge of the Flag to form the second triangle. 5)Continue to fold the Flag in triangles until the entire length of the Flag is folded. 6)If you have followed the above steps correctly, only the blue field should be visible. No red shows. The Flag will be in the triangular shape of a cocked hat symbolizing the hats worn by the soldiers of the Revolutionary War. If you go to the Boy Scout cabin at the corner of Lower Huntington Road and Ardmore Avenue any Monday night from 7Pm to 8:30pm they will gladly give you a demonstration on how to fold the American Flag correctly or they will gladly fold your flag for you.
ATTENTION ALL VETERANS
There will be a Post Service Officers Work-Shop on Saturday, November 16, 2002 from 8:30am to noon at Amvets Post 33, 6620 Koester Drive, (turn off Lower Hunting Road one house east of the Waynedale Branch Library). The purpose of this workshop is to provide our Post Service Officers with a short working session on how to best serve Veterans in our posts. The workshop will be led by Allen County Veterans Service Officer George Jarboe and will include informative sessions on the following topics:
“How to recognize Good or Bad DD-214 or other Discharge papers. What’s the quickest way to get a DD-214 or Military Records?
“Do’s and Don’ts for Post Service Officers. What can and should we do at the Post Level? What should we leave to others?”
“Current Federal and State Veterans Benefits.”

Our Post Home, with its many improvements is beautiful. Respect it, but most of all, enjoy it and invite your friends in. the Honor Guard Spaghetti Dinner is November 16th from 4:30pm to 7:30pm – Adults-$5, Children (under 12)-$2 New Year’s Eve Dance is Tuesday, December 31st – featuring THE TYME AFTER TYME BAND – there will be a $20 cash bar which will include food, party favors, and champagne at midnight – see bartender or any officer to purchase tickets.

We have three changes in the Auxiliary Officers. Our new President is Helen Levy, our Vice President is Diane Martz, and in charge of Membership is Vicky Graham. November 10th is Open Sunday, our Annual Turkey Dinner and we will be open from noon to 3pm. Adults-$6, Children (10 and under)-$3. December 7th is Legion Membership Drive. Come on in and pay your dues. We would like to be 100% by December 31st. December 14th is the Children’s Christmas Party from 1pm to 3pm. Gift-wrapping will be on Saturday the 7th from 10am till done. All help will be appreciated. Remember: “When there’s work to be done, turn up your sleeves, not your nose.

November 19th we have a membership meeting at 7:30pm. On November 21st and 22nd, we will be donating all income from our fundraisers to the Taylor Mills Fund. This is a little 2 1/2-year-old girl that has had really bad luck in life. Also, November 21st is SAL Coney Dog Night. In December there will be a joint Membership Rally on the 7th from 1pm to 4pm. December membership meeting will be on the 17th with possibly a meal being served afterwards. Finally, there will be another Coney Dog Night on Thursday, December 19th presented by your SAL. Thank a veteran every day, not just on November 11th.

WE SALUTE YOU!
It’s always a wonderful experience to welcome back members that have just returned from overseas knowing the dangers and uncontrolled situations they have gone through.
When our Past Commander Linda Becker served in the no-fly zone near Iraq and just returning from of all places Afhganistan, it was a joy to hear her voice and listen to her tell of a competely different world.
Dale Remmert recently returned from Bosnia carrying in his heart, as Linda, the satisfaction of having served and how important it is to keep America free – how fortunate we are to live here in the good ol’ USA and have members proud to serve in the greatest military in the world!
