WAYNEDALE ELEMENTARY WELCOMES NEW PRINCIPAL
Dave Yard, the new principal at Waynedale Elementary replaces retired Principal Larry Duamell. Dave grew up on the north side of Garrett, Indiana, where he still resides. He is married to Julie and they have two boys, Justin 19, and Dakota 7.
Dave graduated from Garrett High School in 1969 and went to Indiana University where he received his Masters in School Administration. After teaching 6th grade at DeKalb for 5 years Dave made a career change and worked for publisher Simon & Schuster for ten years. After his ten year stint at S&S Dave got back into academics where he has been a principal for the past 12 years. When I asked why he got back into education, Dave said, “It’s the kids. No matter what kind of day you’re having, all you have to do is watch the kids working, learning and playing and it just lifts your spirits.”
Early in his teaching career, Dave taught all subjects and the teaching, plus the practical experience in the business world plus, his experience as an administrator has given him the insights necessary to carry on the tasks in his new roll as Waynedales’ principal.
