ALLEN COUNTY VETERANS’ SERVICE OFFICER HONORED
Allen County Veteran’s Service Officer, George Jarboe, received the distinguished service award from the Disabled American Veterans, June 19, 2002. Jarboe received the award for his work on behalf of Allen County veterans. Jarboe received the award from Loran K. Rutledge, Indiana Commander of the DAV, during the organization’s state convention in Indianapolis on June 8, 2002.
The Indiana DAV honors many different providers of services to veterans, including county veterans’ officers like Jarboe. The distinguished service award is voted upon by the state commander and others within the DAV state organization.
“Recognizing the sacrifices of our veterans should be a part of our daily lives,” said Linda Bloom, President of the Allen County Board of Commissioners. “George Jarboe’s efforts to support our veterans honors that commitment every day.”
In 2001, the one-person Allen Country Veterans’ Service Officer helped hundreds of veterans and their families. Jarboe conducted 850 in-office interviews, filed 726 claims for state and federal benefits and fielded over 3,100 calls. The office assists veterans with disability and pension claims, death benefit claims and applications for other benefits.
FLAG ETIQUETTE

Q. What should be the position of the Flag when displayed from a staff in a church, public auditorium, or other public meeting place, whether indoors or outdoors, on platform or on floor or ground level?
A. When used on a speaker’s platform, the Flag, if displayed flat, should be displayed above and behind the speaker. When displayed from a staff in a church or public auditorium, the Flag of the United States of America, should hold the position of superior prominence, in advance of the audience, and in the position of honor at the clergyman’s or speaker’s right as he faces the audience. Prior to the Flag Code changes in 1976, the display procedure was somewhat different. Now the staffed Flag should always be placed to the right of the speaker without regard to a platform or floor level.
AMERICAN LEGION POST 241
A Flag burning ceremony will be held August 3rd at 1pm. We’re asking that all members plan to attend as we put all our worn out flags to rest.

Where: At the Post, 7605 Bluffton Road, Waynedale
Note: Moon Walk, Crab Races, Clowns, Refreshments, Caricatures by Darlene, Children’s Games, Door Prizes (bicycles (3 boys and 3 girls plus all kinds of toys for the kids), Entertainment, Three Commander’s from Indianapolis. – Brite-Eyes Catering-Chicken & Center cut pork tenderloin, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw & roll – Adults $6, Children 12 and under $3.

Congratulations to our new Post Officers (who have some big shoes to fill). Most especially the S.A.L. and Auxiliary. Hopefully, all units working together, as one Legion Family, we will remain the Post with the Mostest. Have you noticed our new lighting? Have a GREAT Summer.
