SCOUTING SMOKE SIGNALS
I want to commend all the Scouts in the Waynedale area. They were well represented in this year’s Memorial Day parade. I have never seen that many Scouts at a Waynedale parade before. Every year I make my way around to the adult leaders and ask them to bring, send, or mail me a list of those Scouts and Leaders that would be marching or did march in the parade. I like to put their names in the paper. I want the public to know that Scouting is alive and well and flourishing in Waynedale. Two groups turned in a list. Here are the names of some of those that are proud to be counted in this patriotic celebration, ceremony, and tradition. Thank you Scouts and Leaders.

TROOP 38 ANNOUNCES SUMMER CAMP NEWS
Troop 38’s six days at Camp Chief Little Turtle are July 7th – 13th. By now everyone’s camp fees should be paid in full and Scouts should have made their choices for merit badge classes. Scouts should plan to arrive at camp no later than 12noon on Sunday, July 7th. Each boy must be brought to camp by his parent or guardian. As there is no formal Family Day, families are encouraged to stay on Sunday to help their Scout get settled in. The Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) for Summer Camp will be Nick Turpchinoff.
TROOP 38 ORDER OF THE ARROW NEWS
Congratulations to Bob Jobe, Josh Maze, Michael Runyan, and Anita “Nana” Weyer who are now Ordeal Members. While we can’t reveal the details of their Ordeal, it sets the stage for them to become Brotherhood members. Well done good and faithful Scouts and Leader.
WELCOME NEW TROOP 38 MEMBERS
Troop 38 is growing again, thanks to 2 new Scouts and one adult leader who joined in late May. Crossing over from Cub Scout Pack 3038 are new Scouts Christopher Meyers and Brandon Meuchel. They will join the Panther Patrol and begin work toward the coveted First Class rank. Our newest Committee Member is Todd Meyers, who also comes to us from Cub Scout Pack 3038. After he completes Scoutmaster Fundamental Training, Mr. Meyers will become an Assistant Scoutmaster with the troop. Welcome aboard new Scouts and leader.
TROOP 44 SEEKING A FEW GOOD MEN (SCOUTS & LEADERS)
Boy Scout Troop 44 is looking for more members. Troop 44’s Scoutmaster Jack Shephard said, “If you are interested in letting your son join Boy Scout Troop 44, then come on down to the Scout Cabin at the corner of Lower Huntington Road and Ardmore Avenue starting June 24th. We will be at summer camp the week of June 17th to the 21st. Troop meetings are normally held every Monday night from 7pm to 8:30pm. In Troop 44 you can learn to: wear a Boy Scout uniform properly, how to make your own rope, how to tie lots of different useful knots, how to cook food in Dutch ovens, how to make HoBo Dinners in aluminum foil, two ways to cook food without fire, how to pitch tents and build shelters, learn first-aid, learn how to start a fire without matches, learn Mr. McCune’s secret way to start a fire “with water”, learn about our government & our nation’s history, have fun playing Scout games, and learn how to become a leader of men.

Our last garage sale was so popular we’ve decided to change it from an Annual to a Bi-Annual garage sale. This is an opportunity to not only get rid of your old junk but to purchase some terrific bargains. Got a full garage/basement/attic/lake cottage you want emptied? (Sorry we don’t “clean” garages, basements, and attics, etc – we just pick up sellable items.) Want to get rid of your old toys, tools, cooking utensils, furniture, antiques, collectibles, and stuff you didn’t get rid of in your last garage sale? The members of Portage Creek Camp Association (Sponsors of Boy Scout Troop 44), said they are willing to come to your house to pick up your donations. You may drop off your donations at the Scout Cabin but you must call first and arrange for someone to meet you there. Please don’t drop anything off in front of the door; it will only get wet or be stolen. Call and have someone meet you there PLEASE. We will issue a receipt for your tax-deductible donations. Take a FREE tour of the Boy Scout Cabin while you’re there.

NEW SCOUT STORE HOURS
Starting Memorial Day weekend, the Scout store will be open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm.
GIRL SCOUT TROOP TO MEET AT SCOUT CABIN
Again I would like to remind all interested parties that Girl Scout Troop #850 (Junior/Cadet) will be meeting at the Portage Creek Camp Association Scout Cabin, corner of Lower Huntington Road and Ardmore Avenue, every Tuesday evening from 6:30pm to 8pm, starting August, 27, 2002. Anyone interested in joining or helping with the troop, please contact Troop Leader Mary Shepard at 436-2422.
