LOCAL STUDENT NAMED ORIENTATION ASSISTANT

Megan Schroeder of Fort Wayne was named as an orientation assistant for summer 2002 at VU. Orientation assistants help run Focus sessions, VU’s orientation for new students, and they help incoming freshmen become acquainted with campus and student life. Schroeder is a freshman mathematics and secondary education major in the College of Arts and Sciences. She is the daughter of Richard and Barbara Schroeder and is a graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School.

CLARK IN VU BRASS CONCERT

Brent Clark participated in the VU Brass Concert April 29. The Trumpet Choir and Community Trombones performed pieces by composers Gabrieli, Handel, Barber, Stravinski, Byrd, and Joplin. Clark played the tenor trombone in the concert. Clark is a sophomore political science major in the College of Arts and Sciences. A graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School, he is the son of Terry and Susan Clark.

 

STUDENT PARTICIPATES IN UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH CONFERENCE

Michael Khouli presented a paper at Butler Undergraduate Research Conference on April 12 on the campus of Butler University. Khouli’s research presentation was entitled “Gender and Alienation in Urban China.” Michael Khouli, a junior at VU, is majoring in Spanish in the College of Arts and Sciences. He is a 2000 graduate of Concordia Lutheran High School and is the son of Milad and Vicki Khouli of Fort Wayne.

 

BISHOP LUERS HIGH SCHOOL

BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA MEMBERS TO COMPETE AT NATIONAL LEVEL

Three members of BLHS’s Future Business Leaders of America will be competing at the National Level from June 28, 2002 through July 3, 2002 in Nashville, Tennessee. Joe Isca will be competing in computer applications. He will be representing the state of Indiana and Bishop Luers High School. Amie Sarka and Mike Godwin will be competing in walk-in competitions.

BLHS Speech Team competed in the Class A meet in Indianapolis on March 23, 2002. The BLHS Speech Team placed 3rd. Elizabeth Sturm made 2nd All State Team.

BLHS is pleased to announce that Matthew Ehinger, Clare Higgins and Emily Maher have been selected as recipients of the 2002 Comcast Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship. This award, funded through The Comcast communities for commitment to community service, academics and demonstrated leadership. To acknowledge this accomplishment, each student will receive a one-time grant of $1,000.00.

BLHS is pleased to announce that Allison Ehinger has been selected to the ICA All-State Academic Cheer Team for the 2001-2002 school year. Allison was selected from an outstanding group of young people across the state, all with very high credentials. She will receive a monetary scholarship to be used to supplement her educational expenses.
