AREA COFFEE HOUSE TO DISPLAY WORKS BY LOCAL WAYNEDALE ARTIST
A display of art by a new talent in the Waynedale area is now being featured in Daddieo DaVinci’s dining room. The work of Miss Lindsey Marshall to be on display. The artist is a native of the Waynedale/Yoder area and is presently studying graphic design at IPFW in Fort Wayne. Miss Marshall attended Purdue University in West Lafayette and is now helping serve customers at the coffee shop each evening.

TUFWC/AREA COLLEGES PLAN FREE SUMMER PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH
Five area colleges will once again offer free programs during July for youth from Allen County. The programs are funded in part by a grant from the Foellinger Foundation and are a cooperative effort between Indiana Institute of Technology (IIT), Ivy Tech State College (ITSC), University of St. Francis (USF), Taylor University Fort Wayne Campus (TUFWC) and Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne (IPFW).
The programs range from sports to fine arts to business and career options, and are open to youth ages 8-18. Each campus has its own emphasis and youth have a chance to explore the range of opportunities within a chosen field. Campus faculty members work along with staff personnel to direct the participants in a wide range of activities.
At IIT, middle school students have the opportunity to explore the areas of math, engineering and computers in a fun, hands-on environment. Middle-school students may also attend the program at ITSC where they will learn about careers in the fields of culinary arts, industrial arts, and health professions. At IPFW, high school students (grade 9-11) will gain first hand experience with area business people and at the same time, get help in preparing for the SAT exams. Taylor University’s program uses sports as a means of helping high school students learn to be leaders, as they work daily with a group of elementary-aged youth. USF helps high-school students explore their interests in art and teaching as they also guide elementary students.
All programs run from July 9-August 2. Openings are still available in the programs at IPFW and Taylor University Fort Wayne. Parents interested in enrolling their children in either program should contact the program directors. For IPFW, call 481-6604, for Taylor Fort Wayne, call 744-8821.
NEW LIBRARY CONSTRUCTION AT TUFWC
TUFWC board of trustees unanimously approved the recommendation to begin construction of a new $8.4 million library. Groundbreaking ceremonies will take place during the University’s Homecoming/Parents’ Weekend, Saturday, September 28, 2002 at 12:30pm on the campus at TUFWC, 1025 West Rudisill Boulevard. Construction of the three-story facility is slated for completion 18-24 months after construction begins.
The library is the second building project for the Fort Wayne campus from the $75 million Taylor Tomorrow capital campaign. To date, over $72 million has been raised. Project funding for the library will come from a combination of gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations, including a $2.5 million gift from Lilly Endowment, Inc. of Indianapolis and a large request from an alumnus.
The library will connect to the recently built Eicher Student Commons. The 38,000 square feet facility will comprise three levels and will represent the most current practices, technologies, and flexibility in response to the ever-changing learning environment.
SONJA STRAHM FROM TUFWC TO ADDRESS SOUTH SIDE BUSINESS GROUP
The South Side Business Group will conduct its monthly meeting on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at 5:30pm in the Atz Ice Cream Shoppe South banquet room, 211 E. Tillman Road. The featured speaker will be Sonja Strahm, TUFWC. She will be discussing goal setting. The meal is at your own expense. The public is welcome to attend and will be given the opportunity to share information about their local business. Please bring literature to display, as well as your business card.
TUFWC PROF PROVES ANYONE CAN BECOME A PROFESSIONAL WRITER

In the fall of 1997, TUFWC initiated a “Professional Writing” major. Since then, more than 100 students have had in excess of 375 manuscripts accepted for publication in national newspapers and magazines, and some have even landed book contracts. “Our program is open for the entire public,” explains Dr. Dennis E. Hensley, associate professor of English and director of the Professional Writing program. “. . . we get traditional college students (age 18 to 23) but we also get folks looking for a second income, retirees who want to write stories about their lives, business people who want to publish in trade journals, and folks who just want to learn how to write and market their book ideas.”
Doctor Hensley holds four degrees in English, including a Ph.D. from Ball State University. He is the author of six novels, 154 published short stories, 36 nonfiction books, and more than 3,000 freelance magazine and newspaper articles. He designed the Professional Writing major so that classes would be offered in “Freelance Writing”, Fiction Writing”, “Basic Reporting for the Media”, “Poetry Writing”, and even “Business and Technical Writing”.
Students can take writing courses for credit toward a degree or just as noncredit (audit)participation. Enrollment is handled through the registrar’s Office at 744-8765.

EDWIN CLARK SCHOUWEILER PLANETARIUM TO OFFER 3-RIVERS FESTIVAL SHOWS
Dates: Saturday, July 13 from 3:30pm to 7pm – Sunday, July 14 from 3:30pm to 7pm – Friday, July 19 from 3:30pm to 7pm and Saturday, July 20 from 3:30pm to 7pm. The cost is $4 for adults, $3 for children under 18, $3 for senior citizens, and $14 for family admissions. Fees are payable at the door. A $1 discount is given for those wearing a Three Rivers Festival button. The planetarium is located in Achatz Hall of Science on the Leesburg Road side of the USF campus.
