THE VOICE OF THE TOWNSHIP
I’m pleased to report that the Great Easter Egg Hunt put on by Wayne Township’s Outreach Department was a success despite the snow! The turnout surprised all of us! Last year, in good weather, over 600 people attended. This year, over 500 people came out and endured the chilly breeze to show support for homeless children. The ground was too muddy for the actual hunt, so the staff gave the eggs away with the “goodie bags”. We did something different this year by offering photos with the Easter Bunny who was really my deputy trustee, Alan Stoller. One of the warmest moments occurred when all of the participants joined together in the National Anthem to kick off this event. A good time was had by all.
The Outreach Department was recently adopted by Mrs. Murray’s first grade class of the Levan Scott Academy. In February, Mrs. Murray did a project that involved homeless citizens. After they completed their project, the children of the class asked Mrs. Murray if they could do something more for the homeless. They decided to provide a variety of health and hygiene items to the Wayne Township shelter. On March 3, the Levan Scott Academy displayed their project at the FWCS Showcase 2002! Cheers to Mrs. Murray and her compassionate students!
I am looking forward to the 2002 Indiana Township Association Metro Summer Conference, which will be held for the first time in Fort Wayne. The trustees and board members from all 1,008 Indiana townships will be invited. The Metro Conference provides education and training in the administration of Township government.
