THAT’S THE WAY I SAW IT

Double No-Hit

A feat unprecedented in the game of baseball as far as anyone around here can recall occurred on Sunday, March 17 at Carrington Field across from the Coliseum here in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Two Indiana Tech Warrior pitchers, John Zamora and Shaun Geise pitched back-to-back no-hitters against Madonna, evening Tech’s record so far this year at 6-6.

Zamora, a sophomore and junior college transfer from Cabrillo College in California, struck out seven in the first seven-inning game but had to overcome three errors and a hit batsman in winning 1-0. Teammate Scott Shelby walked with one out in the seventh inning, stole second base with two outs and scored when Eric Focht singled him home with the winning run.

Geise, a senior out of St. John High School in Delphos, Ohio, struck out eight and didn’t allow a walk in the second seven inning game winning with somewhat more ease 2-0.

Indiana Tech Coach, Lance Hershberger said he has never seen anything like this in his twenty years of coaching. Said Hershberger, “It was incredible. I asked the umpires who called the game – both veteran umpires – and they hadn’t ever seen back-to-back no-hitters. It was a special day.” So it was.

And that’s the way we saw it.
