LUERS SENIOR KEEPER SIGNS WITH USF WOMEN’S SOCCER
Bishop Luers High School senior goal-keeper Abbie Christian has decided to continue her education and athletic career at the University of Saint Francis.
Christian made the announcement in the Luers library flanked by her parents, Bob and Julie, Luers head coach Ken Lewis and USF head coach Christy Young.
“We are thrilled to have Abbie join our program and our goalkeeper family! Abbie is one of the neatest individuals I have met while recruiting this year,” Young said. “She is an incredible team player and someone who is going to make USF better. I have had the opportunity to watch Abbie play on a couple of occasions and she has everything she needs to be successful in our program and at the college level. She is going to challenge our current keepers and really make a name for herself while at USF.”
Christian was busy in goal for the Knights in fall 2009 finishing with 215 saves. She played varsity soccer all four years at Luers, was a captain in 2009 and was awarded the mental toughness award as a sophomore in 2007. She is a member of the honor roll and a 2010 Sterling Sentinel nominee. Abbie’s sister Katie will be a senior at USF in 2010-11 and is a starter on defense for USF.
