KURTZ AMONG 4 COUGARS ON COLLEGE FANZ SPORTS NAIA ALL-DECADE TEAM
Four former members of the University of Saint Francis football program have been named to the NAIA All-Decade Team released by Jason Dannelly on College Fanz Sports Network
Former Cougars Brian Kurtz, Nick Krinn, Cory Jacquay and Jamie Holman were selected to the team that included players from 2000 through 2009. Kurtz, an inside linebacker who was named NAIA Player of the Year in 2006, and Krinn, who played offensive tackle, were first-team selections. Jacquay, who as a junior was 2004 NAIA Player of the Year, was a second-team pick at running back and Holman was a second-team defensive back. Holman set the USF career tackles list which was later set again by Kurtz.
USF posted 10 consecutive winning seasons during the decade, advanced to three NAIA Football Championship Series Championship Games, posted six unbeaten regular seasons, won nine Mid-States Football Association Mideast League titles, and finished with a 111-15 record, one of just three NAIA teams to compile 100 or more wins from 2000 to 2009. USF was third in wins total behind Carroll College (125-14) and the University of Sioux Falls (120-12). The University of Saint Francis finished No. 1 in consecutive NAIA Coaches Top 25 poll rankings with 127 under coach Kevin Donley.
Carroll quarterback Tyler Emmert was named Offensive Player of the Decade, Northwestern Oklahoma defensive back Lynn Scott was the pick on defense and Carroll coach Mike Van Diest edged Kalen DeBoer and Donley for Coach of the Decade.
“Brian Kurtz, Owen Koeppen, and Trevor Holleman were all three players who had a fantastic career in this decade. Each proved they could be considered the best player on this team. Lynn Scott was just at another level in comparison to those three.”
“It’s a daunting task to try to narrow down the best players over the last 10 years into a single list,” College Fanz Dannelly said. “There have been so many great players though the years that some of the best in the NAIA didn’t even make the list. I think that is a testament to the great players the NAIA has produced in the last ten seasons.”
