EXPLORER POST OF THE YEAR #2868

Post 2868, celebrating its tenth year as an Explorer Post, was selected from over 80 units in Northeast Indiana for the award.
In addition, the Post’s Youth Commander, Gary L. Goldsberry, Jr. was named “Exploring Officer of the Year” for the area. Explorer Goldsberry provided quality leadership to the unit for the past year, and is now servicing his second term.
“We have worked hard the last ten years to ensure that the youth have an excellent program,” said Staff Sergeant Tony Vining of the 122nd Communications Flight, and the Post Advisor. “Receiving the Post of the Year award 4 of the past 6 years shows that the youth are gaining something.”
In other awards, Staff Sergeant Vining received the Coveted “Chief’s Award” from the Boy Scouts Miami District Executive, Dave Kinnee, and also was recognized as a member of the Venturing/Exploring Steering Committee; High Adventure Venturing Crew 2057 received “Crew of the Year” honors; Jerry Bohde was named “Family Member of the Year”‘ and American Legion Post 499 was named as “Charter Partner” of the Year.
“We had our group, or its members nominated in 4 of 7 award categories this year,” said SSgt Vining. “That says a lot. I am proud of each of these members. They work hard, and it is an honor to recognize them.”
SSgt Vining would like to thank the Staff of the 122nd for supporting our youth programs through another successful Exploring year. Without the support of the Wing, none of this would be possible.
