MCCARTHY NAMED AIR GUARD ENLISTED MEMBER OF THE YEAR FOR 2002
Technical Sergeant Jeffery D. McCarthy, son of Nancy G. McCarthy, Waynedale, was recently presented with the award by The Indianapolis Armed Forces Day Coordinating Council and The American Legion National Headquarters for Exemplary Achievement and Outstanding Service. It was signed by Robert W. Spanogle, National Adjutant of The American Legion, and Robert G. Moorhead, Chairman of the Armed Forces Day Coordinating Council.
McCarthy was born in Fort Wayne to Nancy G. McCarthy and the late Donald O. McCarthy. The family moved to Waynedale in October 1963. Jeff attended St. Therese Grade School and graduated from Bishop Luers High School in 1980. He joined the Air National Guard after graduation and has been in the Guard for 22 years. Jeff was unable to accept his award at the 2002 Armed Forces Day Banquet. He was in Singapore with his unit – Fighter Wing 122, the “Blacksnakes”, participating in the Commando Sling exercise to enhance U.S./Republic of Singapore Air Force training and cooperation, and to test the 497th Combat Training Squadron. Jeff resides in Huntington, Indiana.
