AMVETS POST #33
MESSAGE FROM COMMANDER SHORTY GEIGER
Homeless veterans, this is a national issue. On the 1st and 2nd of May 2002, I was given two very distinct and honorable privileges. 1st was being asked to speak on the behalf of the Veterans of Northeast Indiana on Capitol Hill concerning the issue of Homeless Veterans in this nation and our community.
2nd, I was given a wreath to place at the apex of the Vietnam Wall representing the Department of Indiana AMVETS. What did this honor mean to me? I can’t begin to put it into words, but it was a fitting way to end my term as your Post #33 Commander. MY THANKS TO ALL!! Let’s all continue to make our post the best in Indiana.
MEMBERS TURN OUT FOR POST ELECTIONS
Although all offices beyond commander were unopposed similar to last year from the May 4th election your votes resulted in the following:
Commander – Doug L. Boren, 1st V.Cmdr – Dan Fairchild, 2nd V.Cmdr. Dave Wall.
At the Executive Board meeting on May the 8th, it was noted by our Judge Advocate, Bill Kauffman, that the 3rd V.Cmdr at the post level had to be filled to comply with State and National By Laws. A letter of acceptance was excepted by member, Craig Savage to fill this position as protem through the Installations on Saturday, June 8th.
The matter will again be the topic at the June 12th Board meeting. The office of adjutant will remain as assigned to the 1st V.Cmdr appointed, just as the Chaplain, Quartermaster, and Service Officer.
JR Past Commander – Shorty Geiger, Finance Officer – Dick O. Blenis, Judge Advocate – Bill Kauffman, Provost Marshall – Dave Menzer, Inspector General – Newton Wylie, 3rd Year Trustee – Bill Sheplett, along with previous elected trustees, Chuck Manor and Dave Hanilton.
