CHARLES J. METZLER, 81
CHARLES J. METZLER, 81, of Fort Wayne, died Saturday, April 10, 2004, at Parkview Hospital. Born April 24, 1922, in Fort Wayne, he was a 1940 graduate of Central Catholic High School, a U.S. Army Air Corps. Veteran of World War II and a member of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He retired in 1983 from management at Dana Corp., after 38 years of employment there. “An avid gardener who took immense pride in his lawn, he was a fan of The Chicago Cubs, Purdue football & basketball, and enjoyed caring for his faithful dog, Lucky.”
Survivors include his son, James C. Metzler of Fort Wayne; brothers, Eugene Metzler of Valencia, California, Patrick Metzler of New Haven and John “Jack” Metzler of Fort Wayne; and sister, Helen Shady of Fort Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, in 1996. Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, April 13th at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 1120 S. Calhoun St. Calling was at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Homes, Wayne Street Chapel, 424 W. Wayne St., with a vigil. Entombment in Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors.
