JOHN STARK, 88
JOHN STARK, 88, a long time Waynedale resident, died Monday, May 4, 2009, at Woodview Healthcare.
Born January 6, 1921, in Fort Wayne, Mr. Stark served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Navy. John retired from General Electric in 1983 following 41 years of employment.
John was a member of the Fort Wayne Artists Guild and the Fort Wayne Art Source. He painted many local country landscapes and scenes from the Old West. His works were frequently displayed in local restaurants.
In addition, John loved to golf and bowl and was an avid gardener. As a member of the Fort Wayne Seniors Golf League, he scored two holes-in-one while in his 80’s. In his younger years, John was an exceptional bowler, once recording an amazing 800 series.
John was also an amateur historian and frequently took trips sponsored by the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation.
John read extensively, mostly history. He had collected the entire collection of American Heritage. He also loved poetry and music, memorizing many works for the enjoyment of his friends and family and learning the guitar and harmonica after the age of 75.
John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann, children, Phil Stark (Linda) of Lebanon, IN, June Stark (Brian Newell) of Madison, MS, two grandchildren Alex and Christian Arnold of Indianapolis, IN and their father John Arnold. Special friend and “adopted sister” Phyllis Hill of Fort Wayne. Loving and constant feline companion, Bogey.
Preceding him in death was his daughter Sally.
The family wishes to thank Patty and Herman Berghoff and Susie O’Leary for their loving care and the Karen’s Kitchen crowd for being such devoted friends.
Visitation was held Friday, May 8th at Klaehn Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, IN.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 9th at St. Therese Catholic Church. Burial in the Catholic Cemetary.
