NOTRE DAME CELEBRATION CHOIR TO SING AT CATHEDRAL
The University of Notre Dame Celebration Choir will perform a concert of sacred music for the Easter Season on Saturday, April 9 at 7:30pm in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Fort Wayne. The concert is free and open to the public.
The concert will include variations on traditional hymns (with congregation participation), along with the music of Pergolesi, Bach, Farlee and others. Strings, flute and trumpet will join with the Choir and the Notre Dame Hand Bell Choir for an uplifting Easter concert.
The Celebration Choir is comprised of approximately 25 Notre Dame undergraduates, graduate students and staff. Music of the Choir, directed by Karen Schneider Kirner, is wide-ranging, from the classics and traditional to gospel/spiritual and contemporary sacred music. With a motto, “Music in Ministry and Mission,” the ensemble serves in a variety of ways. The Choir’s chief responsibility is to provide music for a weekly Interfaith Christian Night Prayer service held on Wednesdays on the Notre Dame campus. A variety of instrumentalists are incorporated into the choral harmonies of the group, including strings, flute, guitar, the Irish bodhran drum and the African djembe.
