DISCOVER HOW TO EASE YOUR PAIN WITH PHYSIOTHERAPY

Maybe you hurt yourself twisting to hit a tennis ball, swinging a golf club, or just looking over your shoulder to see what’s behind you as you pull out of the driveway. You are in pain—-you think that maybe it is just stress, working too many hours or is it hormones! Whatever the cause, the pain is excruciating. Hard seats are a problem, though cushioned ones aren’t any better. Pain so bad that you wait until no one is around before you get out of your chair.

So you call your physician. He sends you to an outpatient physical therapy clinic. What is that, you wonder?

Physiotherapy Associates at 6721 Old Trail Road in Waynedale, located near the new Tower Bank building, is an outpatient physical therapy clinic that caters to adults as well as children. They specialize in the treatment and prevention of a variety of diagnosis including: low back pain, sciatica, neck pain, shoulder, elbow, wrist pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, hip, knee, ankle pain, strains and sprains, and post-surgical rehabilitation.

Clinic Director Jason Sims reported that in the state of Indiana you must have a referral from a physician in order to participate in physical therapy.
Jason Sims joined Physiotherapy Associates in August 2004 and opened the Waynedale office in late November 2004 after graduating with a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. After graduation Jason worked in a general orthopedic clinic as staff therapist and clinic director. Jason is currently working towards his Orthopedics specialization in physical therapy (less than 2% of current clinicians have this type of certification in Indiana).

But it hurts. “It is important that you do not wait to be treated for your pain,” Jason stated. “Strains and sprains of all kinds can be effectively treated with physical therapy and if left untreated can progress to more severe and even chronic conditions, which will only prolong your pain and/or discomfort.” A physical therapist will evaluate your healthcare need, design an individual treatment plan, and re-assess your progress as you progress in your program. Physical therapists are experts in movement and function. Treatment often includes exercise to increase mobility of the muscle(s), including range of motion and flexibility before advancing to other exercises that improve strength, balance, coordination, and endurance. The goal is to improve how an individual functions at work, at play, and home following a surgery or injury.

The good news is that a few simple exercises, performed in the proper way, can reduce and eliminate your pain in just a few days. The exercises don’t even raise a sweat!

Ask Physiotherapy Associates what makes their services stand out, and Clinic Director Jason Sims will tell you it is the personalized care that his patients receive. Each patient receives a “one-on-one” skilled treatment, for a 45-minute block of time, from a licensed physical therapist at every visit. They do not utilize assistants or aides, unlike many of their competitors.

If you feel pain in your muscles or joints, have a grinding noise within a joint, your muscles feel weak and tight or you have a sports injury, make an appointment and let your doctor know that you would like to try physical therapy.
