$50,000 GRANT TO FUND HUNGER RELIEF PROGRAMS
Community Harvest Food Bank has been awarded a grant in the amount of $50,000 by the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne. These funds will be used to provide meals to food insecure kids, seniors, Veterans, and families.
The $50,000 in funding will provide more than 200,000 meals to vulnerable, low-income members of the community. Currently, nearly 80,000 individuals in northeast Indiana identify as food insecure, meaning they do not always know where their next meal is coming from. In Allen County alone, 48,900 people identify as food insecure, including 16,520 children.
“The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne plays an important role in hunger relief efforts right here at home,” said Carmen Cumberland, CHFB Executive President. “This grant provides an incredible benefit to the community that will put thousands of meals on empty tables and hope in thousands of hearts. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank them for their support.”
Since 1983, Community Harvest has grown to become the regional food bank of northeast Indiana, distributing food through in-house hunger relief programs and also through nearly 400 nonprofit agency partnerships.
Hunger relief programs are available to meet the needs of families, kids, seniors, and Veterans in the food bank’s nine-county service area of northeast Indiana. Donors, volunteers, and those in need of services are encouraged to visit www.CHFB.org to learn more about how to get involved.
