RELIEF FOR PUERTO RICO FUNDRAISER

On Wednesday, June 13 the Rotaract Club of Fort Wayne will host their first annual international benefit-Relief for Puerto Rico-at Calhoun Street Soup, Salads, and Spirits. Raising aid for post hurricane disaster relief, from 5:30-7:30pm, the event will feature live music, appetizers, and a chance to hear from Jorge Ralat—a native Puerto Rican dedicating his time to rebuilding the island.

“After Hurricane Maria devastated our beautiful island, I had an inner calling to help,” Jorge, a now Fort Wayne, Indiana resident, said. “Eight months, post-hurricane Maria, a large part still remains without power.”

Jorge identifies families, then personally purchases and delivers supplies to small neighborhoods in Puerto Rico.
“Our focus is to guide those who want to help by providing them with the necessary tools,” Mit Patel, International Chair of the Rotaract Club of Fort Wayne, said. “We, as a group, are aware of how the relief efforts in Puerto Rico continue to be hit with red tape—which leads to delay in recovery efforts.”

The evening’s events will feature a narrative from Jorge on the current state of the country and his efforts to raise awareness and support. Additionally, the night will include speakers from the Rotaract Club, live music provided by Kelsicote, appetizers, a cash bar and meet & greet opportunities for those in attendance.

“The Rotaract Club of Fort Wayne is both honored and humbled to partner with Jorge in his efforts to raise awareness and funding for hurricane disaster relief,” Rachel Batdorff, president of the Rotaract Club of Fort Wayne, said. “Disaster relief doesn’t conclude once media attention fades-we want to help Puerto Rican families any way we can as they rebuild to this very day.”

All proceeds from this event go towards families in Puerto Rico affected by Hurricane Maria. To purchase tickets, please visit fortwaynerotaract.org/puerto-rico/.
