SAFETY GIFT FOR MOTHER’S DAY
Allen County Safe Kids provides smoke detectors on need-basis
Allen County Safe Kids, Northeast Indiana Burn Council, and WANE-TV will give away a very special Mother’s Day gift to those who can’t afford it – smoke detectors.
“We are delighted to be able to help these mother’s and caregivers by providing this vital safety device,” says Jean Joley, Allen County Safe Kids Coordinator, “This will be a gift that will keep on giving for a long time and help them educate their children on the many fire safety steps they will need to practice.”
These smoke detectors will be given on a need-based distribution to individuals who live in Allen County and qualify. To qualify, those who need a smoke detector but can’t afford it, should contact one of three Allen County Safe Kids partner agencies: CANI (Community Action of Northeast Indiana), 423-3546 or 1-800-589-2264; SCAN (Stop Child Abuse and Neglect) 421-5000; and, the Early Childhood Alliance, 745-2501. To qualify, these agencies must be contacted no later than May 5th.
“A major concern for any mother is the safety of her children,” says Joley. “Every day, smoke detectors help save lives and lessen the severity of fire damage. We want to help these mothers in need by providing these smoke detectors so they will hopefully have one less concern for Mother’s Day.”
Allen County Safe Kids works to prevent accidental childhood injury, the leading killer of children 14 and under. Allen County Safe Kids is a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations dedicated to preventing accidental injury. Allen County Safe Kids was founded in 1999.
