USF CENTERFIELDER SELECTED MCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

University of Saint Francis junior Travis Potchka has been named Mid-Central Conference Player of the Week for the week of April 21-27.

The USF centerfielder went 16-for-32 for a .500 batting average and helped the Cougars go 5-3. That 5-3 record helped USF tie the school record for wins in a season on Saturday in a 9-6 win over Marian College. Potchka also tied the school record for stolen bases in a season with his 13th in a 5-for-5 week on the bases. He had five multi-hit games last week and had 10 RBI as the Cougars lead-off batter.

Potchka (Fort Wayne, IN / Elmhurst) finished the week with a 7-game hitting streak while improving his batting average to .397. At the end of the week he led the MCC in hits with 75, one short of the USF single-season hits record, which he broke on Monday with two hits in the Cougars’ 9-8 win over Marian College.

He leads USF in multi-hit games with 24 this season – 17 2-hit games, 4 3-hit games and 3 4-hit games. He also had the longest hit streak of the season, 10 games, and now is on an 8-game streak.

USF (26-27) will play ninth-ranked Spring Arbor University on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the first round of the 2008 MCC Tournament in Marion, Indiana, at the Indiana Wesleyan Athletics Complex on the south side of Marion. It is the second year in a row USF has qualified for the MCC post-season tournament.

In addition the University of Saint Francis Athletic Director Mark Pope is pleased to announce that Mike McCaffrey has been named as USF Director of Sports Marketing and Promotions.

Most recently, Mike comes to USF from the Fort Wayne Fusion, where he served as the Fusion’s General Manager. He was responsible for all game day operations, as well as marketing and promotions.

“USF Athletics is thrilled to have a person of Mike’s considerable expertise joining our team,” Pope says. “Mike has consistently demonstrated that he can deliver a first-rate Sports Marketing and Game Operations package throughout his career. To that end, we expect our current standard to be raised even higher!”

Prior to that, Mike served as the Director of Sales for the Arena Football team and AHL Hockey team in Albany, NY. He has worked as a front office executive for teams in Green Bay, Indianapolis and Norfolk, VA.

Mike is a graduate of Old Dominion University in Virginia, where he majored in Sports Management.

“I am excited to a part of the USF family,” McCaffrey says. “My goal is to play my part in taking the Cougar Athletics Department to the next level. I feel honored that Mark and the rest of the staff have selected me to handle such an important role.”
