JULY NATURE EVENTS AT LRWP

Little River Wetlands Project, a local nature organization protecting almost 1,200 acres of natural and restored wetlands in Allen and Huntington Counties, offers interesting and informative nature events this July and August. All are free and open to the community.

Little River Ramblers
Meet at the Arrowhead Prairie parking lot, 8624 Aboite Road, Roanoke to hike and explore the interesting plants and wildlife of our Arrowhead preserves.

Thursday, July 9
8:30 to 9:45 a.m.
Breakfast on the Marsh: Bats with Bob.
Light breakfast and nature presentation for nature lovers 50+ at Coventry Meadows Senior Community on W. Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne. Join Bob Walton, local bat expert, to learn about these flying mammals and the important niche they occupy in our ecosystem. Bob will bring several different Indiana bats with him.

Friday, July 10
8 to 9:15 p.m.
Firefly Fun
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. We’ll start in the barn learning how and why this flying beetle lights up the night. Then we’ll enjoy an evening hike on the marsh looking for the flashes. Bring your flashlight. Fun for all ages. Dress for the trails and the weather.

9 to 10 a.m.
Short Hikes for Short Legs: Bats
Meet at the Eagle Marsh barn, 6801 Engle Road, Fort Wayne. (For children ages 3 to 5 and a responsible adult.) We’ll start with interactive fun in the barn making a bat and learning what they like to eat. Then we’ll go outside to explore where bats and their dinner live at Eagle Marsh. Dress for the trails and the weather.

Wildflowers of Arrowhead Prairie
Meet at Arrowhead Prairie, 8624 Aboite Road, Roanoke. Join us to learn about and walk among the many native wildflowers found at Arrowhead Prairie.
