NORWELL H.S. SENIOR HARNISH COMMITS TO USF FOOTBALL

University of Saint Francis Head Football Coach Kevin Donley usually keeps it pretty general when it comes comments or thoughts about incoming freshman, but the college coaching veteran may have had a few butterflies in his stomach when he got the call on Sunday night.

Norwell High School senior Piercen Harnish told Donley he had chosen USF to continue his education and football career.

“Obviously, we’re really pleased that Piercen has chosen USF,” Donley said. “I think our business program is what he was looking for as well as a school close to home with the kind of success we’ve had here. He’s an outstanding talent.”

Harnish, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound quarterback/linebacker, earned numerous post-season awards following his final senior season in 2014 including a spot on the WANE Newschannel 15 ‘Fab 15’. He was also named to the 2014 Associated Press 4A All-State Team, the All-Northeast Indiana Team (The Journal Gazette), the IFCA Top 50 All-State, AP 4A All-State 1st Team, IFCA Region 3 All-Star Team, and the All Northeast Indiana Preseason Team (The Journal Gazette).

The son of Ron and Leeann Harnish finished his football career for the Knights No. 3 on the total tackles list. Offensively, he closed his career with 3,915 yards and 48 touchdowns, second-most in both categories behind Klay Fiechter. He finished fourth in passing yards in school history.

2014 STATS:
– 1,555 yards rushing, 24 touchdowns
– 95-187, 1,316 yards passing, 8 touchdowns
– 96 tackles, 8.5 TFL, 1 sack
– 4A A.P. All-State at linebacker
