NO MORE TOX-AWAY DAY AFTER LABOR DAY
The annual Tox-Away Day event held on the first Saturday after Labor Day is an event of the past. Residents can now properly dispose of their household hazardous waste (HHW) products every Tuesday.
The Allen County Department of Environmental Management (ACDEM) expanded the program in July to fulfill a community need more frequently. Residents can drop off their household hazardous waste products every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at ACDEM’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 2260 Carroll Road, Fort Wayne.
Since ACDEM’s expansion in July, over 18,000 pounds of household hazardous waste has been collected. For many years the annual Tox-Away Day in September was the only opportunity for residents to properly dispose of their household hazardous products.
Items like oil-based paints, toxic cleaners, automotive oils, and herbicides, are all accepted at the facility. Allen County residents should review ACDEM’s fees (cash only) and guidelines on their website prior to making a trip to the facility. Residents can find a map to the facility in ACDEM’s website or by searching “ACDEM’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility” via Google Maps.
Drop-off Hours: Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drop-off Location: 2260 Carroll Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46818
We encourage Allen County residents and small businesses to reduce purchasing toxic HHW products and give away leftover products to others who may need to use them for intended purposes.
Small businesses and nonprofits in Allen County who are interested in our new HHW service must make an appointment with ACDEM by calling the HHW Facility at 260-449-4433.
For more information, Allen County residents can visit ACDEM’s website, call 260-449-7878, and follow ACDEM on Facebook and Instagram.
