FIRST TIME DIRECTOR LEADS MUSICAL
Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School’s drama club chose Junior Broadway’s version of the musical Fiddler on the Roof as their 2018 production. First time director and 3rd grade teacher Nancy Laudeman, along with veteran Art Director and teacher Kristin Spoltman, lead the students in presenting two shows and a matinée.
“I loved the musical this year. I think it’s great to educate our students on such rich and valuable tradition of musicals themselves,“ said Spoltman. “Fiddler on the Roof has such history and seeing the younger students enjoy this ‘new’ music to them was so much fun.”
The Art crew began working on the scenery around January 5. Wasting no time, Laudeman casted mid-January. They began practicing shortly after.
Having been in numerous musicals herself, Laudeman knew exactly what it took to put on a successful show.
“Mrs. Laudeman wanted each student to feel prepared and confident when on stage,” said 7th grader Abby Spoltman. “We put in a lot of practice hours.”
After each performance, cast and crew members created a send-off line to high five audience members on their way out.
“What an awesome production! The students’ performance was stellar and the scenery was creative,” said Lois Widner, principal. “With the caliber of Kristin Spoltman and Nancy Laudeman this play was bound to be a success. These two ladies put their heart and soul into this production. The students did as well. I’m very proud of our students and staff!”
