MORE THAN 5,500 JOIN SATURDAY CLEAN-UP
At least 230 groups, and many families and individuals, took to the streets, trails and riverbanks this past weekend as part of the City’s Great American Cleanup™ on Saturday, May 20, 2017. The volunteers represented churches, youth groups, schools, businesses and neighborhood associations throughout the City.
Last year, Fort Wayne volunteers collected nearly 200,000 pounds of debris during the event. This year more than 150,000 pounds of debris and trash were collected along with, 1,050 tires and 170 televisions.
A wrap-up party took place from 11:30am-2:00pm at the Headwaters Park West Pavilion. More than 50 businesses donated funds and supplies to make this year’s event possible.
From the Waynedale area cleanup groups included:
+ Girl Scout Troop #20937 – Bluffton Road starting at Lower Huntington Road
+ New Tech Academy at Wayne High School – along Dunkleburg Road and the area surrounding Wayne High School
+ Kennedy Family – Airport Expressway between Bluffton Road and Lower Huntington Road
+ Profed Federal Credit Union – 5433 Winchester Road from Bluffton to Airport Expressway
+ South Side HS JAG – Calhoun, Oakdale, Clinton, Packard (the city block where the school sits)
