STATE-OF-THE-ART PARKING FACILITY IS OPEN – Message From The Mayor

Members of the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission and representatives from Weigand Construction, Hoch Associates and Ash Brokerage recently joined me to cut the ribbon on the Skyline Garage.

The garage is now open to the general public. The 1,077-space parking garage will also serve employees of Ash Brokerage, residents of the Skyline Tower to be built by Great Lakes Capital, and other retail and commercial tenants in the Ash Skyline Plaza.

In addition to being a state-of-the-art parking facility, the Skyline Garage façade includes colorful LED lighting that will illuminate downtown; lighting will follow color schemes similar to those used on the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge.

The garage also includes a Bike Hub, which is operated by the YMCA in cooperation with Fort Wayne Outfitters. The hub will accommodate parking for 100 bikes used by bike commuters or residents living in the Skyline Tower. The hub connects to the new Skyline YMCA facility, which bike commuters can use for lockers and shower facilities.

Weigand Construction was the construction manager for the garage and Hoch Associates was the architect.

The Skyline Garage is critical because it supports the success of the Ash Skyline Plaza and the future Skyline Tower apartments. The garage is another essential part of our work to revitalize downtown Fort Wayne and create a regional destination for businesses, residents and visitors. The positive momentum we’re experiencing in Fort Wayne positions us as a leader in attracting and developing additional economic development opportunities to move our community forward in the right direction.

I also want to congratulate the 88th recruit class of the Fort Wayne Fire Department. Fourteen individuals recently graduated and are now Fort Wayne firefighters. The new firefighters have demonstrated professionalism and a strong desire to give back.

We’re fortunate to be in position to have new firefighters as we continue to move our City in the right direction. Adding firefighters results in optimal response and protection capabilities. It also enhances the fire department’s level of service by ensuring four firefighters are on a fire apparatus at all times.

Nothing is more important than the safety of our residents. We work each day to ensure our community is as safe as possible. We have an outstanding fire department committed to being the best. Fort Wayne is committed to public safety and the well-being of all of you.
