CALVIN C. LEE, 84, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016. He touched numerous lives as a teacher at Hoagland Elementary School for 31 years. He was honored as Indiana State Teacher of the Year in 1981 and appointed honorary Secretary of State. He was a state finalist for the 1st Teacher in Space. He was honored with the Outstanding Alumni Award by Ball State University and Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America in recognition of his contributions to education. Governor Orr and State of Indiana Council bestowed upon him the Sagamore of the Wabash Award.
He was a member of Nappa Delta Pi International Honors Society. He was a Golden Apple Nominee in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the students of East Allen County Schools. He was a member of American Legion #241 and #296, from whom he received the Indiana Department of American Legion merit award. He received the Good Guy Award from WAFX radio. He was a lifetime member of the Great Bear Fishing Club.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna Jean, and sons Timothy (Mary) and Kevin (Michelle), and 4 grandchildren.
Funeral service was 11:00am on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Klaehn, Fahl and Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, with visitation 1 hour prior. Visitation also 6 – 9 on Monday, February 15, 2016.
Preferred memorial to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
