DON’T MISS OUT ON THE FUN AT ANNUAL LEFT-HANDERS DAY

Left Fest ladiesPlan now to celebrate everything left-handed at LeftFest Fort Wayne on Thursday, August 13 at 4005 South Wayne Avenue from 1-7 p.m. The festival kicks off with the reading of the Bill of Lefts and ends with a concert by Fort Wayne’s People’s Choice favorite musician Hubie Ashcraft performing the hits of southpaws starting at 5 p.m.

This year marks the 39th anniversary of the founding of International Left-handers Day. It is the day to celebrate the contributions and talents of “leftys”. The Fort Wayne celebration also raises funds to give a helping southpaw to the animals sheltered at the Allen County SPCA.

This year’s celebration brings new activities and a twist on an old favorite.

With students going back to school earlier this year the popular trivia contest is now structured to allow festival-goers to participate in it throughout the event. This will allow for a greater number of children to learn about famous lefty’s.

“Lefty’s got Talent” will spotlight talented southpaws:
Caricaturist Mark Ryan will be on hand to caricaturize what you like to do best left-handed.

Diane Groenert, famous for her depictions of historic Fort Wayne landmarks and homes will share her artistic vision.

Local musical theater favorite Aaron Mann will entertain.

Deana Harvey, owner of Tree of Life Art Gallery will share her artistry.

Also new this year is a Chinese Auction. Items donated by lefty business owners will be auctioned to benefit the ACSPCA.

Festival favorite the cornhole contest is back. Chicago White Sox Mascot Southpaw has generously provided prizes.

Of course it wouldn’t be LeftFest without left-handed cookies to enjoy along with other food selections.

Throughout the day famous local leftys and southpaw supporters will drop by.

LeftFest would not be possible without sponsors. A huge “Left on”! to Chuck Surack/Sweetwater, Jimmy Johns, Jerome and Marganelle Henry Foundation, JH Specialty and Born Again Quilts.

Go to Facebook to LeftFest Fort Wayne for the complete schedule or contact Lois Levihn at 260-515-9446, bornagainquilts@frontier.com. Plan now to spend the afternoon and early evening at LeftFest. You may want to bring a lawn chair for the evening concert. Left on!
