IN MEMORY OF ROBERT “PETE” PETERSON
February, the month of love, is a fitting time to honor this amazing man. If you were blessed to know him, would you please honor his memory by blessing someone this month. Please pay his love forward.
Robert “Pete” Petersen was surrounded by family when his Savior called him home, Friday, January 24. After graduating from Central High School he honorably served his country in WW11. He worked 43 years as a printer for the Journal Gazette where he made amazing friendships and memories. After his retirement, he started his 2nd career as a FWCS bus driver. For 15 years, he lovingly cared for every child that stepped on his bus. He was known for blessing his fellow bus drivers by cleaning snow off their buses on the coldest days of winter. Everyone that met him was blessed. Many called him “Sweet Pete” because he always took time to listen and to share a smile. He was a great example to those that loved him. He taught us to love, hug, laugh, and have empathy for others. He taught us loyalty, compassion and to thank God for every blessing. He taught us to take time to watch the sunset and to enjoy the fresh fallen snow. He taught us to share, to dream and to wish upon a star. He taught us to be strong, and to trust him when he said, “Everything is going to be okay.” He loved caring for his family, telling silly jokes, encouraging others, secretly paying for the meals of strangers, buying coffee for friends, slipping a few dollars into someone’s pocket, collecting quarters with his grandchildren, and eating ice cream. He loved the Waynedale community. His children jokingly call their daddy the “Mayor of Waynedale” because of the love and respect he both gave and received on his journeys around town. He enjoyed his trips to the bank, eating warm cherry pie at Azars, and drinking the “best coffee in town” at McDonalds. He treasured the friendships that developed during those visits. He treasured his family and friends…and his family and friends sincerely treasured him. He was tearfully preceded in death in 1991 by his wife Kathryn M. Petersen. He was the proud daddy of Sue Bostic, Danny Earhart, Timmy Petersen (Melinda), and Tammy Pierce (Chris). He deeply adored his 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. He also felt blessed to be called “Grandpa” by many “adopted” grandkids. He loved his nieces and nephews, and was especially close to his nieces Patty, Mary and Jennifer. He was loved dearly by his lady friend, Louise Keim, and was a cherished member of Southwest Church of Christ, 5500 Ardmore. Although he is deeply missed, his memory and legacy will live on in those that loved him: we take comfort in knowing that one day we will laugh with him and hug him again.
