BUSINESSMEN RECOGNIZED FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO SCOUTING
The public was invited to an awards breakfast February 5, 2014 hosted by the Anthony Wayne Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, to honor two local businessmen for their contributions to the community.
The council’s “Leaders of Character” breakfast was scheduled at 7:30 am, February 5, 2014 at Sweetwater Sound, 5501 US Highway 30 West, Fort Wayne.
The breakfast’s highlight was the recognition of two great leaders in our community, Mike Eikenberry, recently retired Regional President of PNC Bank and Chuck Surack, CEO of Sweetwater Sound. Both men were members of the Boy Scouts in the Anthony Wayne Area Council. They continue to use the skills and values taught in Scouting in their lives today.
Chuck Surack actively participated in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts in his youth. Having earned every merit badge required to receive the Eagle Scout award, sadly, he only missed getting the Eagle Scout award by not completing the final service project. In spite of not receiving the Eagle award, he still credits the Boy Scout Law as some of the most important grounding principals for his success and he is known to repeat that law in its entirety to others regularly.
As Regional President, Mike Eikenberry was responsible for sales leadership across all lines of business with an objective of providing an outstanding package of broad based financial products and services. He also headed the Commercial and Corporate Banking divisions in the market. Mike led the PNC Foundation in Northern Indiana, Charitable Support activities, and is an advocate in the community for the Grow Up Great program. Mike was active in Scouting with Boy Scout Troop 85 in South Whitley, Indiana. Members from Mike’s original troop will be presenting the colors at the awards breakfast.
There was no cost to attend the breakfast, however a donation to the organization was greatly appreciated. Businesses showed their support by sponsoring a table at a $1,000, $2,000 or $3,000 level.
