LEE’S FAMOUS RECIPE CELEBRATES 40 YEARS!

Lee’s Famous Recipe was founded by Lee Cummings, nephew to Colonel Harland Sanders. After working with his uncle he decided to go off on his own . With his boyhood friend Harold Omer they opened “Harold’s Take Home” in Lima, OH. After deciding to franchise, “Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken” was born in 1967 and opened up stores in Dayton and Cincinnati, OH and Kalamazoo, MI. By 1972 they had opened up store number 100 in Sanford, FL. James Tellman was an accountant for Central Soya, working mainly with chicken feed, after visiting a Lee’s in Ohio, Jim was convinced that this was the best fried chicken he had ever tried, and decided to start his own franchise in Fort Wayne and opened his first store on East State and Hobson in 1973. By 1983 the franchise had grown to 5 stores, shortly after opening on Stellhorn and Maplescrest, Jim passed away from cancer. The Fort Wayne franchise has been run by family members since Jim’s passing and in 2005 was purchased by the youngest child Carol (Tellman) and husband Tim Hagan. With strong family values Lee’s continues to strive for quality product served with hospitality at a good value. We feel that our team members are our biggest asset and provide long term employment at a competitive wage. Typically our management staff is promoted from within. Lee’s believes in supporting the community just as you have supported us for the past 40 years, and participates in several church and school programs to help and spread goodwill. During the month of October Lee’s will be running specials to commemorate the 40th year of serving Fort Wayne.
