DISTINGUISHED KNIGHT RECIPIENTS!

These awards, presented through the Alumni Office at Luers, honor an alumna(s) and an honorary alumna(s) who have contributed outstanding and distinguished service to his or her chosen profession and community. These individuals live out the mission of Bishop Luers High School in their everyday life and contributes outstanding dedication, support and service to Bishop Luers. Each recipient also demonstrates an ongoing commitment to the Catholic Church and its principles.

Principal, Mary Keefer, is pleased to recognize Jim Hoch, class of 1976 as Bishop Luers 2013 Outstanding alumnus. Jim has supported Bishop Luers since his graduation in 1976. He serves on the school board and has been extremely instrumental in BLHS capital campaigns. Jim is a member of the Diocese of Fort Wayne South Bend, Diocesan School Board, City of Fort Wayne Downtown Design Guideline Taskforce, and is the Governor’s Appointee to Indiana Fire Prevention & Building Safety Commission.

The Outstanding honorary alumnus for 2013 is John F. Gaughan, a man who had a long career at Bishop Luers High School. John Gaughan was an outstanding teacher and coach who affected his students in ways he cannot imagine. His dedication to Bishop Luers and its students is unquestioned and his commitment to his Catholic faith is unwavering. Mr. Gaughan worked for more than 50 years in Catholic education and was a role model for all whom he coached or taught. In 2010 he was inducted into the Indiana High School Football Hall of Fame. Principal Keefer states, “This man was my mentor.  I love him.”
