USF ANTICIPATING “RETURN OF THE TROUBADOURS” FOR HOMECOMING

The Saint Francis College Troubadours and University of Saint Francis (USF) Cougars will converge on the USF campus for food, fun and some friendly competition on Homecoming weekend October 11-13.

Alumni and friends associated with either mascot are invited for a variety of activities in this 50th anniversary year for USF Athletics. Here are some highlights:

At 7 p.m. Friday, athletes and distinguished alumni will be honored at the Alumni and Athletic Hall of Fame awards Celebration at the North Campus gymnasium.

Saturday will kick off with Classes without Quizzes from 10-11:30 a.m., when USF experts will give presentations on interesting and educational topics. Registration for the Cougar Spirit Run/Walk will begin in Hutzell Athletic Center at 11:15 a.m., with contenders toeing the line for takeoff at noon.

Tours of the USF Nursing Heritage display in the nursing commons and the Simulation Lab in the lower level of Doermer Health Sciences Building, as well as historic Brookside mansion, will be available from 2-4 p.m.

Alumni games of soccer, softball, basketball and baseball will take place throughout the afternoon, and tailgate parties for the various schools and departments will start in the Trinity Hall/D’Arcy Stadium parking lot at 4 p.m.

To celebrate a 50-year athletic tradition, the Cougar Athletics 50-Year Anniversary Alumni Fiesta Dinner will take place in a tent in “the cove” next to Mirror Lake, across from D’Arcy Stadium on the east side.

An opening gala for the USF Alumni Exhibition by the School of Creative Arts will be held at 6 p.m. in Weatherhead Gallery, Rolland Center for Art and Visual Communication.

At 7 p.m., Troubadours and Cougars alike will unite in one voice to cheer on the USF football team as they face off against St. Xavier University at 7 p.m. in D’Arcy Stadium. Alumni will gather at the new south end zone VIP area, in their special tent, for fun, food and fellowship throughout the game.

Alumni Awards and Athletic Hall of Fame 2013 inductees and past Athletic Hall of Famers will be honored at half-time. All former USF student-athletes, including the inaugural 1998 football team players, will be recognized on the field.

On Sunday, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its sponsor, the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration, the university will host a special Mass, celebrated by Bishop Kevin Rhoades at 2 p.m. in the North Campus auditorium, followed by tours of Brookside. The campus and local communities are invited to celebrate this special anniversary.

“We are proud to celebrate two milestones this Homecoming weekend—50 years of USF athletics and 150 years for the university’s founding congregation,” said university President Sister M. Elise Kriss, OSF. “As we look to the future, we firmly build upon that past to engage a diverse community in learning, leadership and service.”
