HELYN YOUNG’S GIFT TO WUMC
For over 75 years, Helyn (Good) Young was an active member of the Waynedale United Methodist Church.
Before Helyn passed in 2009, she expressed her desire to give the gift of a flowering tree to her beloved Waynedale church.
This year for the first time, Helyn’s tree was in Full Bloom! The tree is located near the East entrance of the church.
One of Helyn’s favorite poems was entitled TREES, by poet Joyce Kilmer
(1886-1918)
Trees
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day.
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
