ARTLINK PRINT SHOW 33 YEARS STRONG
Artlink’s 33rd Annual National Print Exhibition, which features artwork from the nation’s finest printmakers, opens in the main gallery on Friday, April 26 at 6 pm. The opening reception begins at 6 p.m. with an Artist Talk by three printmakers from the show who will answer questions about their work. The reception continues until 9:00 p.m. All artwork is for sale. The public is invited. The show runs April 26 through May 29, 2013.
The juror and award selector for the exhibition was Mary Bookwalter who is originally from Kansas and who completed her MFA in printmaking and drawing from Northern Illinois University. Bookwalter was a Professor of Art and recently retired from Governors State University, Illinois. Thanks to the generosity of Lincoln Financial Foundation, which has been the print show’s exclusive exhibit sponsor for the past 18 years, Bookwalter will distribute $2,500 in cash awards. The award winners will be announced at the opening reception on April 25.
Fifty-two artists from 19 states will show 71 original, hand-pulled prints. Ten Indiana artists are included in this exhibition. Representing Fort Wayne are Paul Demaree, Dennis M.S. Hettler, and Pamela Robinson; from Huntertown is Julie Wall Toles; from Muncie are David Johnson and Sarojini Jha Johnson; Jeremy Jones is from Mishawaka; Alan Larkin is from South Bend; Lauren Maurer is from Indianapolis; and Neil Taylor is from Bloomington. A free print catalogue which lists all participants is available to visitors, as well as a glossary of print terminology.
Also opening on the 25th will be Ceramic Wall Work by Kristy Jo Beber in the Betty Fishman Gallery. And in the Feature Gallery will be artwork from the children of FAME (Foundation for Art and Music in Education) working in conjunction with the HALO Foundation (Helping Art Liberate Orphans), the children each created half of a painting. The works were then sent to Uganda where they were completed by African students. The paintings will be on exhibit along with photos of the Indiana and African artists.
