USF FOOTBALL SCHEDULE HEADING INTO A “BRIGHT” 15TH SEASON

The University of Saint Francis has finalized its 15th football schedule and it includes the first night game at Bishop D’Arcy Stadium as well as four games against NAIA Top 25 teams.

USF will begin playing football on Saturday, August 25th in Tyler, Texas against Texas College. They will play nine regular-season games, five at home starting with the season opener on September 1 at D’Arcy Stadium against University of Wisconsin-Steven’s Point. The Cougars first night game at D’Arcy Stadium will be on September 22 for Homecoming against Concordia University (Ann Arbor, MI) with a 7 p.m. kickoff in USF’s third game of the season.

Through a generous donation from a private contributor, Bishop John M. D’Arcy Stadium on the west side of the University of Saint Francis, now has lights after poles were erected on Thursday and Friday of the past week. They were installed by Kern Electrical out of Bedford, Indiana, contracted through Hambrock Electric, Inc.. The four 80-foot poles have more than 70 new Musco Lighting lamps providing 1,500-watt lights or 75-candela (candle power).
The USF football team will play the first college football night game in Fort Wayne on Saturday, September 22, at 7 p.m. at D’Arcy Stadium against Concordia University (Ann Arbor, Michigan).

“The lights will also enable us to practice with our full team and avoid conflicts with class schedules,” USF Head Football Coach Kevin Donley said.

“We be able to run a full practice in the mornings prior to the start of classes and we won’t have to worry about bringing in temporary lighting. And our other athletic teams — men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, and softball — will be able to utilize this facility.

“We are very pleased to add lights to D’Arcy Stadium thanks to a gift from a private donor.”

Hambrock Electric, which has installed all the infrastructure for the lights installation, should complete its final work next week and begin testing the lights mid-week.

The Cougars will play three ranked teams on the road with one game at home against No. 22 St. Ambrose on September 28. USF will play at No. 1 St. Xavier on September 29, in a 7 p.m. start; at No. 3 Marian on October 13 and at No. 15 William Penn in Oskaloosa, Iowa, at 2 p.m. on October 20.

This will be USF Head Coach Kevin Donley’s 34th season as a head college football coach, 15th at USF, where he has a 141-30 record. He has a 254-117-1 record heading into the 2012 season and has master-minded 14 consecutive winning seasons directing the Cougars.

USF welcomes back 18 starters from a 2011 team that finished 9-3, 3-2 in the Mid-States Football Association Mideast League. USF finished third in the MSFA MEL behind champion Marian (12-1, 5-0) and St. Xavier (14-1, 4-1 MEL), which won the 2011 NAIA National Championship Game over then No. 1 Carroll College (MT).
