MINNIE V. (BRADBURY) SHUMAKER, 92
MINNIE V. (BRADBURY) SHUMAKER, 92, passed away peacefully at Renaissance Village with the additional loving care of Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home on Wednesday, June 15, 2011.
She was born in Allen County on October 5, 1918 to the late Clarence and Lily (Buskirk) Bradbury. She was married to Robert William Shumaker for 67 years, who preceded her in death in 2008. They had 2 children, Robert Wayne (Bobby) Shumaker who preceded her in death in 2006 and Susan (Kim) Chaney of Fort Wayne.
During her lifetime she had enjoyed bowling, sewing, flower gardening and traveling with her husband Bob to all the states except Alaska and Hawaii and also spent many enjoyable winters in Florida. She enjoyed watching college basketball (which created a rivalry between her IU Hoosiers and Bob’s beloved Kentucky Wildcats!), golf and NASCAR racing on television. She also belonged to a card club with a group of lady friends over 55 years. She was an exceptional homemaker who loved to bake and do handwork, making beautiful doilies, baby outfits and afghans which she loved to share with everyone. She was a warm and friendly person and a good neighbor to many over the years.
Minnie was a wonderful, loving and caring grandmother to five grandchildren; Randy Shumaker of Tollhouse, California, Lauri ( Darrin) Werling of Ossian, Amanda (Andy) Jones of Leo, Mindi (Kent) Herstad of Markle and Steve (Jennifer) Ball, Jr. of Huntington; nine great grandchildren with another due in November; two step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by her two sisters and two brothers.
Service was 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 18, 2011 with Pastor Mike Smith officiating at Elzey Patterson Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road in Waynedale with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 2 – 8 PM on Friday, June 17 at the funeral home. Burial in Nine Mile Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home.
