AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY HONORS DR. JOHN CRAWFORD
This year, the American Cancer Society will be honoring Dr. John Crawford during their annual ACS Hope Classic Golf Tournament Heroes Dinner for his dedication to smoke-free air legislation while serving on the Fort Wayne City Council. The Heroes Dinner will be held at Sycamore Hills Golf Club at 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 9.
Dr. Crawford was elected to the Fort Wayne City Council At-Large in 1995. In 1998, he was instrumental in the passage of legislation that required Fort Wayne restaurants to have separate smoking rooms. In 2007, he championed legislation that outlawed smoking in nearly all indoor workplaces, including restaurants and bars. Dr. Crawford has also served as an advocate for a statewide smoking ban, testifying before various state legislative committees and panels. Currently, Dr. Crawford is a physician specializing in radiation oncology with Radiation Oncology Associates.
“As both an elected official and a physician in the field of cancer treatment, Dr. Crawford understood that the only thing better than curing cancer is to prevent occurrences. His leadership led to legislation that protected the public from the dangers of second-hand smoke. His actions truly make him a hero to those who are dedicated to fighting cancer,” said Stephanny Smith, corporate relations specialist for the American Cancer Society.
