HEALTH AND EDUCATION FOUNDATION GRANT HELPS UNINSURED

At their April meeting the board members of the Fort Wayne Health and Education Foundation approved a $10,000 grant to the Brenda Hanchar Foundation to continue the support of providing durable medical equipment and supplies to low-income and/or uninsured individuals in the greater Fort Wayne community. This award was accepted by Executive Director Cynthia Cornwell on April 30, 2009.

“What wonderful news, particularly with today’s recession, this grant will help fund the purchase of medical equipment such as semi-electric hospital beds, pressure-reducing mattresses, wheelchairs that lift a person to a standing position, and blood pressure monitors. It is our hope that we will be able to provide, thus enhance the lives of those who have lost their jobs and subsequently lost insurance benefits, or cannot afford it,” said Cornwell, “which is the mission of the Brenda Hanchar Foundation.” “Even people who have Medicare or private insurance are caught off guard to discover that a doctor-prescribed medical aid or piece of equipment is not covered.”

Finding a way to help families, the Fort Wayne Health and Education Foundation awards grants to newly formed nonprofit organizations that concentrate on reflecting hope for the future. Through the support of foundations like the Fort Wayne Health and Education Foundation our community is stronger.
