GEORGE L. WHALEN, 77, of Fort Wayne, died Saturday, August 9, 2008, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born November 21, 1930, in Monroe City, he served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 241. He retired from International Harvester in 1981 and had worked for Super Market Services for five years.
Surviving are his daughter, Marilyn (Wayne) Erexson of Fort Wayne; son, David Whalen of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice L. on October 2, 2007; daughter, Linda Dillion; and sister, Mary E. Koop.
Funeral service was 10:30 a.m. Friday at Elzey Patterson Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne. Visitation was from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens, with military graveside honors conducted by American Legion Post 241.
