4 COUGARS ON VSN NAIA FOOTBALL PREVIEW ‘SUPER 72’

Victory Sports Network NAIA Football Preview has selected four members of the University of Saint Francis football team on its preseason Super 72.

USF senior cornerback Paul Carter III (Indianapolis, IN / Northwest H.S.) received the highest recognition listed as the No. 1 defensive back. Carter tied with Donavon Evans for PBUs (9) and interceptions (3) in 2007.

Junior inside linebacker Carl Thomas (Fort Wayne, IN / Carroll H.S.) was listed No. 4 among linebackers after leading USF in total tackles with 100. Senior defensive end Tim Farrell (Fort Wayne, IN / Carroll H.S.) was listed No. 5 on the defensive line. Thomas and Farrell had 8.5 TFLs to lead USF in 2007. USF junior running back Daniel Carter (Indianapolis, IN / Decatur Central) is listed at No. 5 after leading USF scoring for the second season in a row.

The Cougars, ranked No. 5 in the VSN Preseason Top 25, opens their season on September 6.

For the fifth time in the last five years, the University of Saint Francis will open the season in the top 5 of the NAIA Preseason Football Top 5 with a No. 4 berth heading into the Cougars’ 11th season.

This is the 104th consecutive NAIA rating that USF has been in the Top 25. NAIA compiles the voting from regional coaches to determine its Top 25 teams.

Carroll, the defending NAIA Football Championship Series winner, is No. 1 followed by Souix Falls and Missouri Valley.  Ohio Dominican University, which lost a quarterfinal FCS game at home to MVU, was No. 5.

Five of the Top 10 teams were opponents for USF in 2007. Lindenwood (MO) is No. 7, Bethel (TN) is No. 8 and St. Xavier (IL) is No. 9. USF closes its 11th season on November 15 at St. Xavier in Chicago.

USF starts 2-a-days on Wednesday, August 13 and opens its 11th football season on September 6 against Trinity International University at noon at Bishop D’Arcy Stadium.
