MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

City works with County offer new community resource guide

Sometimes it can be hard to know where to look for your answer about local government. Who handles lost pets? What about voter registration? An explanation about property taxes? You can find out the answers to these questions and so much more in the new Community Builders A-Z Resource Guide.

It’s 144 pages of information that can be a go-to guide for answers about local government and other resources. Available on the City’s Web site, it’s compiled alphabetically and serves as both a directory to services and expanded resource guide.

This community guide is a great resource for Fort Wayne and Allen County residents. It makes local government more open and accessible by providing insight into the services that are useful to people on a regular basis. It benefits not only people new to the local community, but also those who have lived here their entire lives.

Fort Wayne worked with Allen County officials to compile the guide. I would also recommend schools, faith-based and non-profit organizations to download a copy of the guide to keep on file.

Some of the information will also be useful to neighborhood associations as they look for information for their association newsletter or get questions from neighbors about local government and its services.

The Community Builders A-Z Resource Guide is currently available in the Special Features section of the City’s Web site at www.cityoffortwayne.org.

If you can’t find the answer in the guide, please feel free to contact the Mayor’s Area Advocate for Waynedale and all of southwest Fort Wayne, Ken Nicolet. Ken can be reached at 427-1122 or ken.nicolet@cityoffortwayne.org.

And don’t forget about 311, your one call to City. Available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or online at the City’s website, you can call about missed garbage or recycling pick-up, traffic or streetlights out, abandoned vehicles and more.

The Community Builders A-Z Resource Guide is currently available in the Special Features section of www.cityoffortwayne.org. An Office Depot coupon for 15 percent off the cost of printing is also available online with the Guide.

Perhaps I’ll see you downtown at the Three Rivers Festival. I’ll be walking in the parade so feel free to wave and say hello.
